John Lennon's 70th birthday is set to be marked with a special time capsule ceremony which will see his post-Beatles recordings preserved until 2040. Fans are also being invited to submit birthday wishes, commentary, musical performances and personal thoughts on the late singer's legacy over the next couple of months for The John Lennon Time Capsule project. Seven doctors who treated Michael Jackson in the years before his death will not face criminal charges, US investigators have said. However, one has been referred to California's state medical board for prescribing drugs under an alias. Jackson's personal doctor Conrad Murray, who denies involuntary manslaughter, was not one of those questioned by state investigators. He is accused of giving Jackson a lethal overdose of anaesthetic. US singer Pink was taken to hospital during a gig in Germany after an on-stage stunt went wrong. The star fell out of a harness which was supposed to carry her across the crowd, instead being dragged into a barricade. The concert in Nuremberg was halted as the 30-year-old was taken to hospital to be checked over. John Lennon's handwritten lyrics to Beatles song A Day In The Life have sold for $1.2m (£810,000) at auction, well above the price expected. The double-sided sheet of paper with notes written in felt marker and blue ink was sold at Sotheby's in New York. The lyric sheet also contains some corrections and other notes penned in red ink. The Oscar-winning director of Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle, and Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry have been given creative control over the ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, which are being held in London. Daldry will be in overall creative charge of the Olympics and Paralympics, while Boyle will be artistic director of the main opening ceremony. David Guetta has taken the UK Number One single slot from Dizzee Rascal with his track ‘Gettin’ Over You’, which features contributions from Fergie of Black Eyed Peas, Chris Willis and LMFAO. The song is house producer and DJ Guetta’s third UK Number One and has climbing 40 places from Number 41 over the course of the week. Kanye West is among a group of artists who are refusing to play gigs in Arizona, protesting against recent changes to immigration law in the US state. A group called The Sound Strike led by Los Angeles rockers Rage Against The Machine and featuring Cypress Hill, Massive Attack and System Of A Down's Serj Tankian, are boycotting performing shows until law SB 1070 is amended. Known for such cult classics as Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now and Blue Velvet, Hopper embodied the image of the Hollywood icon. The band were drafted in at the 11th hour after rock legends U2 cancelled their appearance after a severe back injury left singer Bono unable to perform. U2 have cancelled their Glastonbury headline slot and 16 US shows following frontman Bono's recent back injury and surgery. The Irish band had been set to headline the Somerset event on June 25. They have postponed shows up to and including their New Jersey New Meadowlands Stadium show, which had been set for July 19, the band explained on U2.COM. |
